MINISTER OF FOOD AND AGRICULTURE LAUNCHES GRATIS LOCAL FABRICATOR PROGRAM IN SAVELUGU

The Minister of Food and Agriculture, Hon. Eric Opoku, alongside the Deputy Minister of Trade, Hon. Samson Ahi, has launched the World Food Programme’s GRATIS Local Fabricators Program in Savelugu on February 4th, 2026.
The event brought together key stakeholders to inaugurate this groundbreaking initiative aimed at reducing post harvest losses and boosting local economic activities.
In his welcome address, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Savelugu,
Hon. Alhassan Fuseini, expressed profound gratitude to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, the Deputy Minister of Trade, and the World Food Programme for selecting Savelugu Municipality as a center for this initiative.
He highlighted the program’s potential to address persistent challenges in agricultural post harvest losses, particularly in maize and soybeans production.
The program adopts a holistic approach to agricultural transformation by linking agriculture to local manufacturing and youth skills development.
It targets 33 Youth Artisans from the municipality, providing them with skills in fabrication and local workshop practices to stimulate economic activities.
Hon. Alhassan Fuseini emphasized the importance of focusing on women smallholder farmers, who play a crucial role in sustaining food security in the municipality.
He urged beneficiaries to make good use of the program to realize its intended benefits.
The GRATIS Local Fabricators Program is a timely intervention that demonstrates a commitment to developing the Savelugu Municipality with sustainable employment opportunities for the youth.
